Outstanding members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) 2010 ‘Batch A’ were presented with outstanding corps volunteer awards of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) following their contributions to nation building.
A total of 55 ex-corps members were honoured at the event organized by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the office of the Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Speaking at the ceremony, Director-General of the scheme, Brigadier-General Maharazu I. Tsiga, who was represented by the Director, Community Development Service (CDS) Department, NYSC, Mrs Martha S. Midala, said the NYSC MDGs advocacy project trained 3,700 corps volunteers nationwide during the 2010 Batch A orientation course.
He added that out of that number, 74 were selected for the award of excellence, following their contributions to nation building.
“They brought smiles to the faces of the down trodden through their care for orphans and engagement in various charity works in addition to teaching basic skills to youths in the communities for sustainable livelihood,” he said.
