Following the scarcity of kerosene, the Osun State government has procured 330,000 litres of the product for distribution to people of the state. Chairman of the Task Force on the Distribution of Petroleum and Allied Products in the state, Mr. Gbenga Odulaja said Governor Rauf Aregbesola instructed that the product which is being subsidized by the government should be distributed in the nine federal constituencies across the state to ensure that it gets to all nooks and crannies of the state.
Odulaja, who said the government ordered the procurement of 10 tankers each with 33,000 litres of kerosene, expressed optimism that the development would alleviate the suffering of the people.
“Towns selected in each of the nine federal constituencies are Osogbo, Ilesa, Iwo, Ede, Iragbiji, Ikire, Ife, Ibokun, Ila Orangun and Olohunda. For the first batch of the product that arrived Tuesday night, some stations will be open for distribution from Wednesday (yesterday),” he said.
He added that for a peaceful conduct of the exercise, three members of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps and five volunteers from the Osun Youths Empowerment Scheme (OYES) are being deployed to each of the distribution points.
