Bomb Scare In Jos NYSC Camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp in Zang commercial secondary school, Bukuru in Jos south local government council of Plateau state was yesterday thrown into confusion following the arrest of a middle age man who allegedly invaded the camp with lethal substance suspected to be explosives in a polythene bag.

The NYSC camp was immediately thrown into panic as the corps members were seen scampering for safety from various directions.

When LEADERSHIP visited the NYSC camp some of the panic stricken corps members were seen in groups discussing the development.

But contacted on the incident, the spokesman of the Special Task Force (STF) on Jos crisis, Captain Charles Okeocha told LEADERSHIP in a telephone interview that it was not true that anybody was arrested carrying bombs into the NYSC camp in Bukuru.

According to him, the said suspect was a lunatic carrying empty containers and cans in a black polythene bag which prompted those who sighted him approach the Camp entrance to suspect and immediately rush and wrest the bag from him.

He added that immediately the STF was contacted, they moved in quickly to rescue the embattled man and stressed that but for the timely intervention of the men of the special task force the suspect would have been lynched by the angry mob.

Captain Okeocha disclosed that from their investigation there was nothing like bombs or explosive devices found in his possession as was being speculated in the state.
