A group of National Youths Service Corp (NYSC) members in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have donated a well to Karshi community.
The group, known as War Against Poverty (WAP) Community Development Group, said it was their own way of alleviating the suffering of the community.
Mr Francis Ugwu, the President of WAP, said the group noticed that the people of Karshi lacked water and decided to do something about it, which was their way of contributing to the alleviation of poverty in the community.
According to Ugwu, the provision of water would go a long way in making life bearable for members of the community.
Mrs Foluke Oladeinde, WAP Schedule Officer, NYSC FCT, said it was important for corps members to impact on the community they served.
She said the group did a survey of the needs of the community and realised that there was need for water which informed their choice of digging a well.
“The corps members contributed their personal money to ensure that there is water for the people of this community. Though it may be small, they know it will go a long way to reduce the suffering of the people,’’ she said.
She thanked the community for telling the corps members their need and encouraged them to always cooperate with corps members who come to the community.
Alhaji Ahmed Doka, the District Head of Karshi, said it was a good gesture from the corps members, as it would reduce the burden of lack of water in the community.
“It is our belief that anybody who provides water, provides happiness and the reward is from God and the community is going to take care of this well,’’ he said.
Doka said it was not the first time corps members provided such a gesture, but that this was unusual as it had to do with life because “water is life’.’ (NAN)
